What people mean by a snap-on screen
A screen that clips or snaps to the frame at fixed points rather than sealing along the edge. They go up quickly, which is the appeal. The trade-off is that the mesh between the fixing points can bow away from the frame, and a bowed screen has a gap down the side.
What a magnetic screen does differently
The magnetic strip runs around the whole opening, so the screen is held along its entire edge rather than at a few points. That is why the seal holds when the wind pushes on it, and why the corner pieces come with wind clips for exposed windows.
Cut to fit either way
The bigger difference is sizing. These are cut down to your own opening with a blade or scissors, so an out-of-square window in an older house is not a problem. A fixed-size snap-on screen has to find a window that matches it.
