Netting versus a screen
Loose netting taped over a window sags, catches the wind and leaves gaps at the edges, and gaps are the whole problem. A screen holds the same mesh flat and sealed around the opening, which is why it keeps working past the first fortnight.
Why fibreglass rather than nylon
The mesh is woven from glass yarn and coated in vinyl. It does not rust, corrode or stain, and it stays flexible instead of going brittle and splitting after a couple of summers, which is what finishes cheap nylon netting.
You can buy just the mesh
If you already have a frame that is sound and only the netting has gone, replacement mesh is sold on its own by the sheet in all three grades.
