What are the benefits of a custom fly screen door?
It fits the doorway you actually have, so there are no gaps for insects to find. The magnetic seam closes itself behind you, nothing is drilled, and the whole thing comes down again at the end of the season.
How do I get a custom size screen door for my home?
Measure the frame opening across and top to bottom, allow 2 cm each side for the velcro strip, and send the measurements through the form on this page. You normally have a price within one working day.
Can a screen door be made for any type of door?
Hinged doors, back doors, French and patio openings are all normal jobs. For a very wide run such as bi-folds, send the measurements and we will tell you honestly whether one screen or a pair works better.
What material options are available?
The screen is fine midge mesh with a fabric trim, and the trim comes in black, brown or white. There is no aluminium or steel anywhere in it. It has to stay soft, because the two halves close by magnets and you walk through it all day.
Is it durable enough for pets and children?
Being walked through twenty times a day is exactly what it is built for. Claws are a different matter: mention the animal in the form and we will be straight with you about what holds.
Does a screen door add home security?
No. It is mesh fabric, and we will not pretend otherwise. It keeps insects out while the real door stands open. For security you still shut and lock the door itself.
What customisation options are there?
Size and trim colour. Any sensible width and height, and a trim in black, brown or white. There are no locks, hardware packs or motorised versions, which is exactly why it stays affordable and simple to fit.
How is a custom screen door installed?
You do it yourself in about ten minutes. A velcro strip is stitched to the screen; the other half presses onto the door frame. No drill, no screws, no installer, and nothing to pay for fitting.
Can it fit unusual door sizes?
Yes, that is the whole point of the quote form. Extra wide, extra tall, a narrow caravan doorway: send the measurements and we price exactly that opening.
What is the lead time?
Quotes usually come back within one working day. A made-to-measure screen takes longer to arrive than a stock size, because it is cut and sewn for your opening; we confirm the timing with your quote. Screens ship across the Netherlands, free over €75.
Is there a warranty?
You have your statutory rights: the screen must be as described and do what it should, and if it does not, we put it right. One thing to know before you order: once production of a made-to-measure screen starts, the 14-day withdrawal right no longer applies. That is stated on the form as well.
How does it handle harsh weather?
Summer rain and sun do not bother the mesh. It is not a storm barrier, and most people take it down in winter anyway. The velcro peels off and the screen folds flat for storage.
Is a screen door energy efficient?
It lets you cool the house with open doors instead of air conditioning. On a warm evening that is free moving air with nothing flying in.
What maintenance does it need?
Almost none. Dust it now and then, and wash it with mild soap and water when it needs it.
Can I install it myself?
Yes, and that is the only way it is done. The screen is designed for it: press the velcro onto the frame and you are finished. There is no installation team, because nobody needs one.
How do I clean and care for it?
A soft brush or cloth, mild soap and water. Let it dry hanging and it is ready to go again.
What colour options are available?
Black, brown or white trim. The mesh itself is dark, which is also the colour you see through best.
Can it be fitted with a pet door?
It does not need one. Most cats and dogs learn to push through the magnetic seam within a day or two, and it closes itself behind them. A separate flap is not something we build in.
Does it obstruct the view?
No. The mesh is fine but dark, and dark mesh is the kind you see through best. Light and air pass straight through, and the doorway stays open to look at.
Is it suitable for commercial properties?
Nothing stops it. A cafe, office or workshop doorway takes the same screen as a kitchen door. Send the measurements through the form as usual.
What types of mesh are available?
The door screen uses fine midge mesh at 15 x 17 density, fine enough for the small biters, and it has to stay soft and light so the magnetic seam can pull itself shut. Our flat window screens come in other meshes, including a heavy pet-proof one, but for the door this is the right mesh.
Does it add property value?
We would be inventing things if we said yes. It is a removable screen, not a renovation. What it does is make the house nicer to live in all summer, and it moves with you when you leave.
Can I request a quote online?
Yes, with the form on this page. Send the measurements and you normally have a price within one working day. Free and without obligation.
Are there financing options?
No, and you should not need them for a fly screen. You see the price in the quote first, and you pay when you order. Until then you are committed to nothing.
How do I choose the right one for my home?
There are two choices to make: the size and the trim colour. Black, brown or white; pick whichever sits best against your door frame. The rest is the same screen every time.
What keeps the insects out?
The design does the work. Velcro seals the top and sides against the frame, and up to 40 magnets close the centre seam over its full height. Measure correctly and there is no gap left to find.
Can it be used on balconies or patios?
Yes. Balcony and patio doorways are among the most common orders. The velcro needs a frame surface to press onto, so tell us in the form what the opening looks like.
What is the ordering process?
Measure the opening, send the sizes through the form, and you get a price, usually within one working day. Happy with it? Confirm, we make the screen and ship it, and you press it onto the frame yourself.
How does the cost compare to a standard size?
A made-to-measure screen costs more than one of the fifteen stock sizes, which is why we quote first. If a stock size covers your opening, we will say so; that is the cheaper route.
Where can I see examples?
In the web shop, where the standard door screens are shown with photos and measurements. We sell online only, there is no showroom, and that saving is in the price.
When you need a custom door screen
Fifteen standard sizes cover most doorways, from 60 x 210 cm up to 180 x 240 cm. A quote is for anything outside that: a wide patio opening, an unusually tall door, a bi-fold run, or a caravan and motorhome doorway that is nothing like a house door.
Why the fit matters
A screen that is too small leaves a gap along the frame, and a gap is all a mosquito needs. Made to the opening, the velcro seals the top and both sides, the seam closes the middle, and the doorway is shut everywhere except to air and light.
What you can choose
Two things: the size and the trim colour, in black, brown or white. The mesh is the same fine midge mesh on every door screen, because it must stay soft enough for the magnets to pull the seam shut. No hardware and no motors, and that is what keeps it affordable.
Measuring a doorway
Measure the frame opening across and up, and then allow 2 cm at the top and 2 cm on each side for the velcro strip that is stitched to the screen. This is the step people miss, and it is why a door screen sometimes arrives a size short.
What separates a good door screen
Look at how the velcro is fixed. On ours it is stitched to the screen, not glued, because glue lets go in August heat. Then look at the mesh: 15 x 17 midge mesh stops the small biters that coarser mesh waves through. And count the magnets in the seam, which is what the next section is about.
How it closes
Up to 40 magnets are sewn into the fabric down the full height of the centre seam, so the two halves pull together from top to bottom as you walk through. Budget door screens use 26 or fewer, spaced out, which shuts the middle and leaves the top and bottom just open enough for flies.
Fitting
The velcro strip presses onto the door frame. No drill, no screws, nothing to hire, and it folds up for storage at the end of summer.
